ETIC_Algarve student raises awareness for World Suicide Prevention Day

“Have you ever killed yourself?”

September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day.

Exclusively, during the September 10th, director Henrique Lopes will make his short film “A Viagem” available to the general public on Vimeo.

Henrique Lopes is a young man from Tavira, who has a very young and dynamic team, made up almost entirely of film students. The short film was produced by ETIC_Algarve, where Henrique Lopes studied Film and TV Production.

“A Viagem” (The Journey) was a critical success and has won several awards and mentions at various festivals. Highlights to date include: first place in the Fiction/Drama category at FICSAM 2019 – International Film and Mental Health Festival; first place in the Experimental category at the Sophia Student Awards – Portuguese Academy of Cinema; third place in the Best Student Director category at the Kosice International Monthly Film Festival; First place in the Best Short Film Actor category at the Prague International Monthly Film Festival; honorable mention for Best Experimental Film at the New Cinema-Lisbon Film Festival; official selection at the UK Monthly Film Festival; official selection at the Feel The Reel International Film Festival; finalist at the FROSTBITE International Indie Fest; and semi-finalist for the Best Director Awards.

Suicide is a harsh reality that lives in the shadows of thousands of people. it is not said out loud but in silence of emotions, in unnoticed glances and in the smallest actions.

Every year there are about 800 thousand deaths according to a WHO report and “A Viagem” aims to raise awareness among the population that there is always a solution and possibilities, and should not give up.

A short film that leaves anyone clinging to the screen and that leads us to make people aware of a very real problem but that is seen as taboo.

No? I have”
