GameCrit Project: ETIC_Algarve Welcomes European Partners to Boost Critical Thinking Among Young People

ETIC_Algarve was delighted to welcome its European partners from GameCrit – Use Digital Games to Boost Students’ Critical Thinking Skills, an Erasmus+ project that aims to implement digital games as a teaching tool for developing critical thinking skills in young people. This innovative project, involving seven European partners, is being developed until 2026 and is currently in the pilot phase in several countries, including Spain, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Turkey and Poland.

As a technology partner in this project, ETIC_Algarve’s mission is to create games that address relevant and contemporary issues such as Artificial Intelligence, Fake News, Hate Speech, Stereotypes, Inclusion, Migration, Renewable Energy and Conscious Consumption. The aim of these games is to promote the development of new skills in students and encourage them to reflect on these topics in an interactive and innovative way. In addition, ETIC_Algarve is also responsible for creating the project’s visual identity and managing its digital platforms.

Meeting in Faro: Discussion on the Pilot Phase and Next Steps

The last GameCrit Project meeting took place in the city of Faro, where European partners had the opportunity to be welcomed at the Municipal Museum of Faro by the Head of Division and Culture, Dr. Bruno Inácio. This meeting was an excellent opportunity to discuss the results of the pilot phase, which is being implemented in participating countries, and to plan the next steps for the future implementation of the games created.

The GameCrit Project: An International Initiative to Transform Education

The GameCrit Project is an Erasmus+ initiative involving seven European partners:

  • ETIC_Algarve (Portugal) – Responsible for game creation and digital platform management.
  • ASSOCIAZIONE N.E.T. (Padua, Italy) – NGO dedicated to social inclusion and support for people at risk of exclusion.
  • IES LEGIO VII (León, Spain) – Primary and secondary school.
  • Peyami Safa Ortaokulu (Bursa, Turkey) – Secondary school.
  • Pasvalys Lėvens (Pasvalys, Lithuania) – Secondary school.
  • Project Vitae (Stargard, Poland) – Company specialising in educational consultancy.
  • Platon M.E.P.E. (Katerini, Greece) – Secondary school.

Vision for the Future: Transforming Education with Innovative Tools

Nuno Ribeiro, Director of ETIC_Algarve, shares his vision for the project: “GameCrit is a project that aims to transform traditional teaching, using the most innovative tools for students. Our contribution goes far beyond the creation of games. We are developing a new educational methodology, where students can learn, reflect and act, using digital games as a bridge to critical knowledge about social and technological issues.”
