The short film Faisão, directed by Beatriz Silvestre, a student of the Directing for Cinema and TV course (23|25) at ETIC_Algarve, has recently been selected for screening at the First Frame Film Festival, hosted by the University of Leicester, UK.
This international festival, taking place on 11 and 12 April 2025, is dedicated to showcasing emerging talent from film students around the world, bringing together projects that reflect creativity, passion, and social awareness. Now in its third public edition, the event will be held at the Attenborough Basement University Film Theatre, located on the British university’s campus.
A Project Born from the Final Project Module
Faisão was developed by Beatriz Silvestre as part of the Final Project module during the first year of the Film, TV and Directing course at ETIC_Algarve — a pivotal stage in the training process, where students are invited to apply the knowledge and techniques acquired throughout the academic year.
“Earth & Nature” Theme and International Recognition
This year’s edition of the First Frame Film Festival revolves around the theme “Earth & Nature”, challenging participants to explore the relationship between humans and the planet.
The selection of Faisão for the festival’s official screening programme reflects not only the artistic value of the work but also its relevance — placing the creative output of an ETIC_Algarve student alongside international projects from all over the globe.
The ETIC_Algarve Effect in Action
This achievement is not only a testament to Beatriz’s talent — it also exemplifies what we call the ETIC_Algarve Effect: a transformative creative process, where hands-on training, personalised guidance, and freedom to explore empower each student to find their voice and take it further.
“FROM: A final school project
TO: A film screened at an international festival”
Congratulations to Beatriz Silvestre and to all the students from the Directing for Cinema and TV course of 23|25. This was a true team effort and as such, congratulations are in order for the entire group.
May this be just the beginning of a creative journey filled with stories to tell — and to film.
